Sundance Saloon at “Easter in the Park” with the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence

Sundance Saloon became part of the entertainment at the infamous Easter in the Park with the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence. After a morning of rainshowers the sun came out just in time for our demonstration dancing on the lawn of Hellman Hollow in Golden Gate Park.

We started with some two-stepping, followed by a line dance medley. The highlight of our stage time was the teaching of the easy line dance Cupid Shuffle to the entire crowd!

It Takes a Village: Sundance Saloon Promotion at 16th & Market

check-cash window 16th & MarketEach month the check-cashing store at 16th & Market in San Francisco offers its window space to a different nonprofit organization. This month (March-April 2015) the Sundance Association is the featured nonprofit to coincide with our 17th anniversary month.

To prepare for this opportunity our resident photographer Troy Dean Wardlow took photos of many of our Sundance Saloon dancers. To show the many faces of Sundance Saloon we posted these photos along with other promo photos from the past in the Market Street window. We’re also displaying a continuously-looped video of the dancing at Sundance Saloon recently produced for us by Robert Cortlandt.

Sundance Saloon thrives because of its support by the community it creates. This project is just one more example of many Sundancers coming together where there is a need, in this case to create an eye-catching window display that shows off the faces of our community.

And new to our blog is a page where we will archive our posters, the most recent being our 17th anniversary poster shown below.

Sundance Saloon Presented Country-Western Dancing on RSVP’s 30th Anniversary Caribbean Cruise

CW dancing on the RSVP cruise

RSVP 30th Anniversary Caribbean Cruise

Sundance Saloon was proud to offer country-western dancing aboard the recent RSVP cruise sailing in the Caribbean on the Regal Princess (February 8-15, 2015). We presented two mornings of lessons, one evening dance in the ship’s elegant atrium, and one afternoon dance outdoors on deck.

RSVP cruises provide us with a unique opportunity to reach out to a large audience that might not otherwise be exposed to country-western dancing. We are always happy to see good participation from passengers, including many who have never two-stepped or line danced previously.

RSVP Vacations is celebrating its 30th anniversary of gay cruises this year, with one more cruise planned for Alaska in early August. RSVP cruises are known for the friendliness and sociability of its wide range of passengers, and a myriad of activities and entertainment to choose from. Sundance Saloon will be aboard the Alaska cruise as well, so if you decide to go, be sure to bring your dancing boots!

Sundance Saloon Invades The Castro

Jane_Warner_Plaza_Jan15_10a

Sundance Saloon spent a glorious hour two-stepping and line dancing in the heart of the Castro this afternoon, January 10, 2015. The weather more than cooperated, with the sun shining and the temperature climbing to a perfect mid-60s.

There’s something truly special about dancing out in the open air. We’ll surely be the talk of the tourists waiting for their F-line trolley — surely they don’t see this at home. What better representation of the LGBT community to the world than same-sex dance partners just out enjoying themselves! We had lots of interested passersby, and lots of fun and entertainment for participants and observers alike.

Some nice comments we received:
“… probably the best and most enjoyable of all the Sunday Concert events in Jane Warner Plaza since it started.” – Dennis, owner of Orphan Andy’s
“Great use for our neighborhood space.” – Scott Wiener, San Francisco Supervisor

Thanks to the Castro/Upper Market Community Benefit District for hosting us! We hope to do it again soon!

Sundance Saloon Holiday Ball Recap: December 14, 2014

Sundance Saloon Holiday Ball 2014
The Sundance Saloon Holiday Ball was celebrated on Sunday, December 14. This has become a great annual tradition. The club never looks so festive as on this night, as we dance to holiday classics mixed in with the latest country hits. Santa made his obligatory appearance, and we even had a brief indoor snowstorm!

The evening is notable for the presentation of the net proceeds of the Sundance Stompede to its beneficiaries. We were proud to present $15,640 to the AIDS Emergency Fund and Openhouse. Also on this night we collected dozens toys for Mama’s Toy Drive, making it truly a night of giving!
